- Boston Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) – composed of seven agencies, seven municipalities, and a public advisory committee that collectively carry out the federally mandated “continuing, comprehensive and cooperative” (3C) transportation planning process for the region.
- Regional Transportation Advisory Council (RTAC) – An independent group of citizens and officials charged with providing public input on transportation planning to the Boston MPO; formerly called Joint Regional Transportation Committee. APT is a member of RTAC.
- T Riders Union – An activist organization that is a core committee of ACE (Alternatives for Community & Environment)
- www.new-england-public-transit.org – Public Transportation in NH, VT, and ME – Another independent site, devoted to coverage of public transportation in those parts of New England that aren’t “Greater Boston”. Lists local transit lines and other useful information for visitors, such as cheap hotels. Very heavy on information.
- The Underground Newton Transit Site – An independent site concentrating on Newton but with lots of links to transportation information all over. (No longer being updated.)
- The Arborway Committee – An association advocating restoration of Green Line service on the Arborway line in Jamaica Plain.
- bostonpublictransit.com – An independent blog by Jake Hirshberg on all things T.
- Friends of the Community Path – Advocates extending the Minuteman Bikeway through Somerville to the Charles River.
- Gallery of the Absurd: Special MBTA Section – An independent site maintained by Erik Wegweiser documenting some of the many absurdities in the T, from a rider’s point of view.
- Boston Transit & Traffic – Another independent site mostly about transit in the Boston area. By Joshuah Mello.
- MBTA.net – “a portal into other sites which are dedicated, in one way or another, to the T”, by Erik Haugsjaa
- BadTransit – “News, vitriolic opinion, commentary, biting sarcasm, parody, dissent, insult, and sad humor on the USA’s most inept mass-transit system — Boston’s MBTA”, by Mark Richards
- CARAVAN – Non-profit organization devoted to promoting ride-sharing and public transportation in Massachusetts.
- SmarTraveler – SmarTraveler provides information about current traffic conditions, including MBTA route delays and other updates, via the Web or recordings on their phone tree (617-374-1234).
- Massport – They operate Logan Airport and other services. Some good resources for visitors on their site.
- National Association of Railroad Passengers – NARP is an advocacy and lobbying group supporting improved passenger train service around the U.S.
- Trainriders/Northeast – This group has been working for years to bring intercity train service to Portland, Maine. It finally become a reality in December 2001.
